Abstract:

Successful long-term implementation of the Office of Civilian Radioactive Waste Management's (OCRWM) program depends on its ability to recruit qualified individuals educated and trained in science and engineering fields. It has become increasingly necessary to ensure that a resource pool of highly skilled scientists, engineers, and technicians is available now and in the future. OCRWM's Education and Information Division has developed a new curriculum for middle and secondary school students that is designed to encourage their interest in issues related to the use of nuclear power and waste disposal, and in the pursuit of science and math courses required to study these areas.
