Abstract:

This paper describes the design and construction of a remedial grout curtain to resolve a long-standing seepage condition at Calero Dam, located at the south end of the highly-populated `Silicon Valley' in Santa Clara County, California. A double-line grout curtain was installed while maintaining the reservoir near its maximum storage level. Determinations of the effectiveness of the grouting and the ultimate extent of the curtain were based principally on the results of day-to-day monitoring of the response of piezometers and seepage measuring weirs many of which were installed specifically for this project. The grouting program reduced measured seepage by over 60 percent and significantly lowered piezometric levels within the abutment rock.
