Abstract:

A method to estimate the required separation to preclude pounding between adjacent buildings is presented. It accounts for the effect of yielding on the vibration phase of adjacent buildings. Applications of the method are demonstrated, and the results are compared with those from the code procedure as well as nonlinear time history analysis.
