Abstract:

This study is motivated by the works of Isaacson and Subbiah (1990) to evaluate the vertical wave force on a rigid horizontal member located in the vicinity of still water level with its longitudinal axis perpendicular to the direction of advance of a unidirectional deep water random wave train of arbitrary bandwidth. Wave force on such a member consists of slamming force, the Morison type fluid force, and buoyancy force. Considering intermittent submergence of the member due to fluctuation of surface of the water, the probability function and the mean and mean-square values of vertical wave force are obtained.
