Abstract:

Specifications play a vital role in a steel bridge painting contract. They not only can ease problems with painting construction, but can also provide a common standard for all parties involved, ensuring the required quality. Furthermore, realistic specifications have profound effects on the economics of construction. This paper presents the results of a research project that aims to solve the above problems. The paper will begin with a review of the current practices employed in steel bridge painting. The critical elements that constitute a good steel bridge painting quality and the pitfalls that cause an earlier failure of steel bridges will be pinpointed. And finally, the conclusions will be made based on the results of the literature review, the interview with experts, and the field measurements obtained.
