Abstract:

The City of Portland, Oregon, has embarked upon a two-year program to develop a long-term management program for its combined sewer system. A team of consultants is assisting the City in developing technical tools for determining the volume and quality of combined sewer overflows (CSOs) and their impact on the receiving waters, principally the Willamette River. These tools will then be used to develop realistic alternative programs for reducing the overflows.
