Abstract:

Two types of sediment bioassays may be conducted in the regulatory evaluation of dredged material, toxicity tests and bioaccumulation tests. COBIAA (for the Consequences of Bioaccumulation in Aquatic Animals) is an expert system being developed to help interpret bioaccumulation test results. Since regulatory decisions are based on both types of bioassays, a brief overview is given of these tests followed by a description of the proposed expert system.
