Abstract:

The Port of Portland's facilities, being located on the Columbia and Willamette Rivers, are subjected to extreme water level fluctuations. Over the years, the Port has used floating docks to compensate for these conditions where maintaining a constant elevation between the dock and ship is necessary such as RO/RO operations. This paper will describe a new auto import facility that the Port of Portland developed for Hyundai Motor America, using surplus U.S. Navy dry docks. Included will be a description of the various marine elements that comprise this auto import facility.
