Abstract:

Particle-related (microscopic) soil modeling has attracted attention of research community in recent years, because of complication and shortcoming associated with inelastic macroscopic (phenomenological) constitutive equations for soils,. The difficult part of such modeling is uncertainties involved in particle measures and relating those to the overall soil properties. In this paper, in order to develop a particle-related model for clayey material, a preferred orientation angle of clay particle is introduced. This angle is the mean value obtained from a distribution density function which has been used to describe the distribution of clay particle orientations.
