A Statistical Method for the Reliability of Mechanical Components

Part of: Probabilistic Mechanics and Structural and Geotechnical Reliability

Abstract:

The usual statistical treatment of data for the reliability of components is to fit a distribution to them and then to use this theoretical distribution for predictions. But since this procedure will give good predictions in the central region of the distribution and not in the tails, it is often not useful for reliability analysis.
