Abstract:

The problem of predicting the safety of structural systems subjected to random loading arises in may engineering applications. In this framework the envelope process plays an important role for linear systems under normal excitations. In order to reduce the computational effort in evaluating the pre-envelope covariances of the response for both stationary and non stationary input, here the differential equations governing the evolution of these covariances are determined. It follows that the pre-envelope covariances can be evaluated as solution of these differential equations.
