Part of: Engineering, Construction, and Operations in Space III

Abstract:

Commemorating 1992 as the International Space Year, the Governor of Colorado and the SPACE '92 Executive Committee elected to include in the SPACE '92 Conference a full day of activities focused on state-wide participation by pre-college students (grades 4 through 12), college students, and teachers. So that future planners of such events can use today's progress as a springboard for tomorrow's success, this paper outlines the planning and implementation process used for the SPACE '92 Student Program. Many activities were planned to meet the SPACE '92 Student Program goals of capturing students' and teachers' imaginations, interest, and enthusiasm about the study of science and mathematics and space exploration: teacher workshops; educational displays; student 3-D space model competition; hands-on student projects; movies and exhibit tours; briefings by space industry professionals; souvenirs; student paper presentations; and a special proceedings edition for the student papers.
