Abstract:

The discrete Markov approach considered herein is simple to implement and uses a two-dimensional stochastic model in conjunction with simulation to estimate model parameters. The possibility of damage moving multiple states during a single period of loading is considered. Only simple matrix multiplication is required to evaluate the effects of varying initial fatigue quality on life estimates once the conditional probabilities of movement between the cells is determined. Modifications to the general approach, to reduce computational time and storage requirements are also discussed.
