Abstract:

This paper looks at various factors affecting portland cement concrete(PCC) pavement cracking, with special emphasis on the effect of joint spacing on crack development. A rational approach to selecting joint spacing to minimize crack development and promote effective load transfer across the joints is presented. As a practical matter, construction considerations are taken into account in the final selection of the joint spacing.
