Abstract:

The U.S. Army Engineer Waterways Experiment Station is conducting a study to develop and improve design guidance for shallow draft coastal ports. As part of this effort and to fill gaps in existing design criteria, techniques to predict shoaling rates and dredge maintenance requirements for shallow draft coastal harbors and their channels are being investigated. This paper will present details of this work by discussing various theories appropriate for predicting harbor and channel sedimentation.
