Abstract:

Dana Point is a shallow draft harbor for 2500 permanently moored vessels. Marina Amenities include boat launching ramps, trailered boat storage, a fuel dock, and sport fishing facilities. Other amenities include retail shopping areas, restaurants, public view and picnic areas, a youth and group educational facility, and a Marine Studies Institute. This paper discusses the development of the marina, from the perspective of planning and design considerations, and construction methods; and includes a discussion of the marina's accomplishments as a recreational and a financial success.
