Abstract:

What follows is a discussion on the organization and operation of a public run marine bureau servicing 3,800 boat slips in two major marinas. In addition to the marinas, this marine bureau includes launching ramps, recreational boating facilities such as youth sailing clubs, rowing clubs, scouting organizations, a water ski stadium, yacht clubs, beaches and other related facilities. The City of Long Beach operates its boat slips directly, collecting fees and performing maintenance and repairs on all of the marine operations. The management is divided into four divisions and has an annual operating budget of $27.5 million.
