Abstract:

The Radio Data System is now commonly implemented on many European VHF-FM broadcasting transmitters. RDS provides for the transmission of a silent data channel on existing VHF-FM radio stations. RDS achievements on open areas ie roads and motorways have been extensively assessed in Europe these last years. This paper will present the performances of an RDS retransmission using leaky feeders in road tunnels. Then starting from these results we propose a new open road application of leaky feeders dealing with the possibility to transmit very locally specific RDS informations without altering the received audio program by the car driver.
