Abstract:

This paper proposes reliability as a new indicator for advanced management and future construction of road networks; and also presents a new reliability analysis method. This article contains three sections. First, the significance of road network reliability and the benefits of increasing reliability are discussed. Second, a method for increasing reliability through traffic control is demonstrated. Third, an efficient and practical method for calculating an approximation of terminal reliability is developed. Numerical operations will be provided verifying that the method provides stable and satisfactory approximations. The CPU-TIME is 1/200 to 1/20,000 times more efficient than both the precise method in calculating the exact value, and the Monte Carlo method in obtaining the approximate value.
