Abstract:

A relationship for oxygen transfer efficiency, E, at spillways and gated spillways with a hydraulic jump or plunge pool, has been developed from conceptual considerations and fit to measurements from 37 field surveys, with a standard error of 0.07 in units of E. Total head difference, specific discharge, and the depth of jet penetration into the plunge pool were all found to be important parameters for determination of E. The relationship was verified on eight measurements of oxygen transfer efficiency quoted in the literature, with a standard error of 0.16 in units of E.
