by Leonhard E. Bernold, North Carolina State Univ, Raleigh, United States,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Preparing for Construction in the 21st Century

Abstract:

This paper presents a series of research projects to build and test prototype systems. It has been found that prototyping provides an economical approach to support both basic and applied research. Testing of bar code labels in the construction environment, assessing productivity of an innovative sensor-integrated nailer, and investigating path control methods for automated excavation are some projects discussed in this paper.
