Abstract:

A sand-bed model representing a reach of the Nile River was constructed to study alternative solutions to maintaining the navigation channel. Flume tests were carried out first to determine Chezy's C for this material as well as the magnitude of distortion for the movable-bed model. Herein, we describe the scaling ratios and calibration runs for the model which were carried out prior to the search for the alternative solutions to the river problems.
