Abstract:

The potential flood impact of a breach in a dike for a large spreading-area on a nearby waste storage facility was investigated. An HEC-1 model was used for generating breach hydrographs at the dike and routing them through the surrounding desert landscape past the facility. HEC-2 models of the routing reaches were used to determine storage-outflow data and discharge ratings for input to the routing model, and to determine final water surface elevations.
