Abstract:

The new version of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (ACOE) 1-Dimensional sediment transport model, HEC-6 'Scour and Deposition in Rivers and Reservoirs', was used to evaluate the sediment transport characteristics of the Elwha River, Washington with dam retention and dam removal scenarios. This required evaluation of existing channel conditions, inflowing sediment loads, calibration to historic sedimentation in the reservoirs, estimation of past hydrology, and determination of reservoir trap efficiencies.
