Evaluation of Embankment Erosion at TVA's Chickamauga Project

Abstract:

Studies were made to evaluate the extent of erosion to be expected under probable maximum flood (PMF) conditions. The erosion studies were made using the EMBANK computer program. The results of the erosion study indicate that the embankment would not erode below the normal minimum pool. Additional analysis indicated that the extent of erosion was most sensitive to the differential between headwater and tailwater levels. This paper describes the procedures and results of the erosion study for the Chickamauga project.
