Abstract:

This paper presents a specific case study in the runner upgrade and unit rehabilitation of two pump/turbines at the Seneca Powerhouse. The study addresses the modern optimized designs including upgraded runners and wicket gates, along with specific challenges relating to Seneca's Unit 2 double discharge draft tube, improved wearing ring/seal configurations, along with the importance of total turnkey project coordination with field scheduling to assure a successful project.
