Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Waterpower '91: A New View of Hydro Resources

Abstract:

This paper presents the project experience of rehabilitating the 70-year old Ashton power house and performing the dam design modifications to pass the increased probable maximum flood. The upgrade of Unit 1, installing a new turbine and rewinding the generator, will double the Unit 1 capacity and significantly increase its efficiency. The paper also presents the spillway alternatives considered and the design features of the solution to protect the downstream slope with roller compacted concrete (RCC) and allow the flood flow to overtop the dam.
