Hydro Plant Modernization and Uprating

by Fred B. Siebensohn, American Hydro Corp, Auburn, United States,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Waterpower '91: A New View of Hydro Resources

Abstract:

The paper suggests that the method to achieve desirable hydropower benefits at costs lower than for new thermal projects, is through systematic modernization and upgrading of older hydro stations. Reestablishing original performance levels of such systems, and potentially increasing their capacity beyond the original rating, has proven to be the most cost effective solution in many cases. Subjects covered include system considerations, capacity uprate, plant components, and others
