by S. C. Stitt, U. S. Bureau of Reclamation, Denver, United States,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Waterpower '91: A New View of Hydro Resources

Abstract:

One way to increase the energy production of a hydroelectric powerplant is to improve the power production efficiency, that is, obtain more energy for a given quantity of water through the turbine. The Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation) has emphasized several functions that impact efficiency, including water release scheduling, equipment replacement, and operation methods. The agency has improved efficiency in each of these areas. This article focuses on improvements made in operational methods, specifically in the area of generation control.
