Abstract:

Many older dams are in need of rehabilitation as a result of aging, deterioration, and more stringent safety standards. Concerns include deterioration of original construction materials, seepage, inadequate spillway capacity, and computationaly unstable structural elements. Analytical and structural measures are available and have been used to upgrade existing dams to meet acceptable levels of safety and extend their useable life.
