Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Waterpower '91: A New View of Hydro Resources

Abstract:

Case studies are presented about the analysis and rehabilitation of two slab-and-buttress (Ambursen) dams. The paper discusses the investigation techniques used, including sampling of material strengths and properties and geotechnical drilling, involving intricate drilling with specialized equipment inside the dam. The structural analysis of the dam components is discussed as well as the calculation of the dam stability. The design of the structural rehabilitation is discussed along with considerations of the constructability and cost of the solutions. One dam is in the jurisdiction of the FERC and the other is in state jurisdiction; discussion of varying criteria and requirements is made.
