Abstract:

Experience gained by analysis of a number of hydropower projects throughout the world leads to the conclusion that it is necessary to consider sediment related aspects in the design and operation of a project as well as the effect of the project on rivers. In order to analyze sediment, several steps must be followed. Sediment analysis concepts are presented and three case hisories are discussed which point out the need for sediment analysis along with approaches that have been taken in conducting the analysis of these rivers.
