Part of: Waterpower '91: A New View of Hydro Resources

Abstract:

This paper will present one company's experience in selecting and implementing a document imaging system for management of correspondence, environmental studies, dam safety reports, and other documents related to hydroelectric project operation in general and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission license compliance matters in particular. Document imaging is the process of converting paper-based documents into computer screen images of those documents for storage and retrieval. The document imaging system should not be a replacement for paper-based files, but a fast and accurate method of retrieving a complete history of any given regulatory matter, while leaving the paper files undisturbed. Important points to consider in selecting an imaging system are ease of use, compatibility with existing equipment, and affordability.
