Abstract:

The paper describes the development of a mathematical model designed to be used by coastal engineers to study the effects of groynes on shingle beaches. The main task of the model is to predict the evolution of a beach under wave action, over a period of several years, for alternative groyne profiles and spacings. Both alongshore and cross-shore sediment transport mechanisms are included.
