Abstract:

The design of artificial beach systems is dependent upon the modelling criteria and on the selection of the sand material to be used for nourishment. In order to obtain a stable beach design, it is necessary to ensure that the nourishment material will not be lost due to offshore sand transport. A method to design artificial beaches based on a geometrically undistorted fall velocity scaling model is proposed in this paper. This stable beach design is supported by the results of physical model studies, using the procedure suggested in Dean (1985).
