Abstract:

A computational model is developed for the prediction of the wave period averaged turbulence structure under a breaking wave. The principal forcing function for the model is the generation of turbulent production at the surface boundary, this energy production being calculated from the rate of wave energy dissipation according to bore theory. The computed depth dependent eddy viscosity coefficient allows the calculation of the turbulent mass flux and consequently the distribution of suspended sediment concentration under breaking waves.
