Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Coastal Sediments

Abstract:

Foredunes on sandy beaches are best developed through use of a series of fences by which dune height and width can be controlled. In a previous paper, the authors examined the functioning of single sand fences. The present paper is the second in a series on the state of knowledge and practice on sand fences and focusses on engineering aspects of multi-row fences. Sand fence configuration, timing of placement, wind conditions, and functioning of fences are described and recommended procedures given for achieving optimal results according to project objectives.
