Scour Around Cylindrical Piles Due to Wave Motion in the Surf-Zone

by Michele Di Natale, Univ of Basilicata, Italy,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Coastal Zone '91

Abstract:

The paper discusses the results of experimental tests to study scouring phenomena around cylindrical piles during a sea storm with reference to the modelling of a beach profile in the surf-zone. Particular attention is given to the effects of both 'general' scour in the surf-zone, with or without the presence of obstacles, and 'local' scour directly related to the presence of piles. The analysis of 'total' scouring (both 'general' and 'local') during the various phases of a sea storm has been given particular attention.
