Abstract:

The results of a study of the wind damages caused by Hurricane Hugo is presented. Cases involving wood structures, industrial steel buildings, multistory reinforced concrete buildings, and poles are discussed. The study corroborates that sound design and correct construction equal good structural performance. Main structural elements behaved excellently while facades behaved poorly.
