Abstract:

The concept of hypermedia has the potential for greatly enhancing existing database management software. In the present paper the concept of hypermedia is briefly described, the nature of hypermedia-based development programs is discussed, and a comparison to standard spreadsheet and database management software is made. To supplement the aforementioned discussion and comparison, a sample hypermedia-based information retrieval system is presented. Finally, the future potential of hypermedia-based programs as practical tools for the dissemination of information is examined.
