Abstract:

A parametric model has been developed for the optimum design of laminated composite flange. The study focuses on the evaluation and performance optimization of composite flanges with the optimum selection of layup pattern and gore strip angle. The effect of butt-joint between the gore strips is also evaluated. Two dimensional laminate theory is employed in the analysis. The accuracy of the model is verified through a series of coupon tests. The experimental results agree well with the numerical predictions.
