Abstract:

A chance constrained model for determining optimal dynamic control parameters for structures subjected to probabilistic forcing amplitudes is presented. Optimal feedback control parameters are determined by minimizing the levels of each control parameter conditioned on the probability that the maximum displacements do not exceed a prespecified upper bound. The model is solved using Monte-Carlo simulation and is used to investigate the tradeoffs between the dynamic control parameters and the response reliability. An example is presented using a single mode, one-bay, one-story frame.
