Abstract:

Hydraulic research in China has concentrated largely on free surface flows, sediment transport, large hydraulic structures, and hydraulic machinery. River ice research activities are expanding as the need for cold regions water resources develops. Institutions currently engaged in river ice research include Hydrological Bureau of the Yellow River Conservancy Commission (Y.R.C.C.), Hefei University of Technology, Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research, and Lanzhou Institute of Glaciology. To data, river ice research in China emphasizes field studies. This paper discusses data collection programs, ice cover roughness, frazil ice jams, reservior regulation and ice control.
