Abstract:

The results of laboratory and field experiments on single pile and pile group behaviour in frozen soils are reported. It was shown that the character of soil deformation was influenced by the spacing of piles in a group and the condition of soil. For large spacing the bearing capacity of the pile group is determined by the product of the bearing capacity of the single pile and a number of piles in a group. For small spacing this relation is unusable and the special analysis of pile settlement is necessary. Based on theoretical investigations formulas for single pile and pile group settlements are proposed. The strongly expressed rheological properties of frozen soils are taken into consideration by using the strain-hardening creep theory.
