Abstract:
Piedra del Aguila Hydroelectric Project is on the Limay River in Argentina. It has a capacity of 1424 MW with annual energy of 5500 GWH. This is an overflow dam, with intake gates, penstocks powerhouse, turbines, generators and ancillary equipment. The spillway is designed with a maximum discharge of 10,000 m3/sec., with four radial gates. These gates are: width - 15m; height - 19.41m; radius - 20m. This makes them among the largest radial gates in the world, with a special design of the trunnion and leaf.
