Abstract:

Based on the Practice of Gezhouba Project, the first water control project on the mainstem of the Yangtze and the largest hydroproject in China, this paper lays emphasis on importance and necessity of the study of river regime planning and sediment management in the planning and design of a river-run hydroproject. It is also demonstrated by this paper that these studies must follow the essential characters of river flow and sediment motion in the reach where the project is located.
