Abstract:

Experiments on the formation of a small meander-channel at low stage are conducted by supplying a proper discharge on initial bed of alternate bars that have been formed in experimental flume. It is found that the formation of a small meander-channel results in the development of local scour and the deformation of bars. The hysterisis effect of a small meander-channel to the alternate bar that may be formed again at high stage is also examined by flume experiment. A diagram that can distinguish the deformed bar from a series of bars is proposed on the basis of the data of experiments presented herein and actual rivers.
