Abstract:

A two dimensional (laterally averaged) numerical model of estuarine circulation has been developed for the prediction of the vertical salinity distribution in coastal canals. The model is designed to predict the full range of distribution possibilities from well mixed to highly stratified. The model is used to predict salinities in Broad Creek, Hyde County, North Carolina. Numerical results are compared to field results with good agreement.
