Abstract:

Over the past few years, the City of Portland has used a mix of personal computers and minicomputers to accomplish its mission. This paper describes four applications of using lap top microcomputers as connections to City minicomputers. These applications are: collection of travel time data; collection of traffic sign inventory data; collection of street lighting outage information; use as a remote/portable terminal for the traffic signal system The first two applications are operational and the last two applications are still in the development stage.
