Abstract:
The Federal Highway Administration had sponsored the development of two software packages called HISAM and HISAFE. HISAM primarily provides an alternative means to store related accident records, street inventory, and traffic data. HISAFE includes programs to assist in: the selection of an appropriate evaluation plan, calculation of expected accident rates, statistical analyses, and economic evaluation of proposed countermeasures. This paper presents an evaluation of HISAM and HISAFE by using actual accident records/files of a local municipality. The HISAM/HISAFE software was designed to aid local agencies with data base development and accident analyses.
